What have you done?
Made my own handlebars, gas tank (lowbrow tunnel and shell) in which I made my own custom mounting for, modified and re-did the rear section of my frame (bent tubing, coping, welded new axle plates), wheel spacing, drivetrain alignment, modified my taillight mount (prism supply) and welded my oil tank and fender mounts.
What do you have left to do?
I'm still waiting on my inner primary support but other than that, Exhaust, Paint and Polishing, Finish building the motor, foot controls, brakes, plumbing, lighting and electrical.
Any problems so far?
I ran into a couple of mistakes that I had made. Mostly ones I had made while making the gas tank. I didn't have the motor in the frame when I made the hidden mounts and when I put the motor back in, the rear rocker was in the way of the rear tank mount. The petcock needed to be relocated as well. I'm sure i'll make more mistakes as the build continues but it's all part of the process. Also, just not having an air compressor in my tiny garage has made everything a lot longer of a process than usual. I've been using hand tools and battery powered tools almost entirely. Running out of Argon also sucks haha.
Favorite part of the bike so far?
My favorite part of the bike would either be the handle bars or just the frame in general. I know a lot of people are running the single loop frames these days but I think mine has a great stance and its cool because the neck is casted. The handlebars came out great for it being my first time using a real tube bender and making handle bars from raw stock.
Favorite part of the competition?
I really enjoy the whole process. Watching the bike take on its own identity just from a vision that I had. It's pretty cool getting your stuff out there and having people paying attention. I also enjoy the chats with the rest of the builders. Very supportive and talented group.
Want to give any shout outs?
I'd just like to shout out all of my friends and family who have been supportive throughout this whole process. Friends that have sold me parts or helped me source the ones i'm after. My brother and a handful of my friends who have physically helped me and/or given me advice over the phone. Even the ones who have just gassed me up on the internet. Thank you all, it means a lot to me. I'd also like to thank Biltwell for keeping the Peoples Champ competition going. I have been following since it was ran by Show Class a while back and it's cool to see how big it has become, so thank you guys for all that you do!
