Date: June 13-16
This is the day after the Born Free show in Long Beach. We've got several friends planning on coming in from out of town to hit the show already, so why not throw some riding into the mix?

Here's the deal: We're riding motos to Mexico and you are invited. We're staying/camping on the bluff at Quatro Casa's 156 miles south of the border.

How Much: Richard at Quatros charges $15 per person, per night. You get a spot on the bluff to camp, you can skate the bowl all you want, use the BBQ area, and if you are one of the first few people you might even get one of the hostel's 20 beds. You can also rent surfboards, etc. There are three showers and four toilets. This is worth $15 so don't be a cheap ass and pay the man. We are not charging any ride fees or registration.

Food: This will be on you. Richard will run some breakfast and dinner meals but lunch is totally on you to provide. He can only serve about 20 people at a time so we can overwhelm the dude pretty quick. If you don't bring chow, you will be riding back out that 9.5 mile dirt road then running up or down the highway to find a taco shack or shop to buy some. Avoid that and come prepared. Richard will be making coffee in the am, so that's a nice bonus!

What the hell do we do for two days? Whatever you want! We are sponsoring a BBQ on Monday night, but that's about the only scheduled thing. Some people have a chase truck bringing some dirt bikes. There are great trails and portions of the Baja 100 course come right through this area. Of course you can surf or fish all day, as well as skate the bowl. Fireworks? Yup. It's vacation, lay around, whatever.

Schedule:

Day 1 (Sunday)
- Meet at Denny's in Carlsbad. Exit the 5 fwy at Carlsbad Village Drive and go west. It'll be pretty hard to miss. We will be rolling out from this parking lot at 9:00AM, so if you want to ride with us, be topped off and ready to roll at 9:00AM.

We will ride to the border and get off at the next to the last exit, Via De San Ysidro. We will get gas and Mexican insurance here unless you buy it online beforehand.

Once we cross the border, it's 156 miles to the turn off to Quatro Casas. The only confusing area is Ensenada. If you get separated from the pack, just keep heading south, there is only one highway so it's pretty hard to screw up! Please note, this is just a bunch of guys riding, not an organized deal with road captains and all that stuff. It's more like herding cats and is generally a total disorganized mass of idiots heading basically the same way. Print the map and bring it with you in case you can't stay with the pack for some reason.

At km marker 146, there is a sign that says Quatro Casa's Surf Hostel on the right side of the road. Turn right here. Ride 5.2 miles to the beach and hang a right when the road dead ends. You'll take this road north along the beach for 4.3 miles. The road is mostly regular old washboard and should be no problem even on low rigid bikes. As you get closer to Quatros, there are a couple spots where you'll have to slow way down to get through, but it should be passable by anyone on any bike, even with modest skills. 2wd cars or trucks are no problem.

Day 2-3 (Monday-Tuesday) - Screw around, it's really remote and we'll be right on the beach. The beach is rocky, so you won't be riding on it. Surf, skate the bowl, whatever. We're going to throw a BBQ on Monday night, so your food will covered for this meal. Note that you can rent boards and wetsuits from Richard at Quatros.

Day 4 (Wednesday) - Ride home. Every man for himself!

Things you should know:

The ride is open to anyone with the right attitude. We won't be providing chase trucks, but will probably have someone in the team truck, possibly with a small trailer and we'll do our best to help anyone out, but you need to be self-contained and have a back-up plan for yourself and your buddies.

The surf at Quatros is mostly a right, and responds to south swells. There are other spots up and down the coast that have good waves as well. A neat spot to ride to is Shipwrecks. If you go back on the road you came in on, but keep heading south at the "T" instead of turning left and going to town, you'll run right into it in about three miles. You'll know you are there when you see a big ship on the beach (duh).
