Endless Summer Tour 2017

We try to do at least one multi-day motorcycle trip every year with the weak excuse that we need to shoot next year's helmet colors, road test some gear, etc. For 2017 we decided to stay in our own state of California and hit a bunch of favorite spots and explore a few new ones. Most of us have been riding together for quite a while so we move pretty fast and there isn't a lot of wasted time standing around trying to figure out what's next. The whole trip was about 2,500 miles and several friends jumped in for a few days here and there. I put the route plan together and we mostly stuck to it. Otto did the navigating and I have to say he did an outstanding job of keeping us on track. Over eleven days we got hotels twice and camped the rest of the time. We managed to hit the Sierra Stakeout, worked the NorCal Cycle Swap and dropped off a trophy for the Redwood Rumble on our way out of Santa Cruz. The way we plan for a trip like is pretty simple; we pick routes and nightly destinations in advance so we know if it's an easy 150-mile day we'll have a lot of time to screw off along the way. If it's a 300+ miler, we won't dick around near as much. I reserved campsites in advance so there was no wondering where we were gonna stay or sleeping in truck stops. We've all done our share of that to make big miles on the highway but this trip was intended to be chill and not a ball-buster. Some freeway riding is unavoidable of course but we tried to stick to two-lane backroads as much as possible and I bet we did about 1,500 miles on some of the best twisties ever. Lots of elevation gain kept it interesting and we lucked out with near perfect weather. Since we got such good snow pack this winter, all the streams, lakes and waterfalls were raging and we took every opportunity we could to jump in and cool off. Flynn ended up getting some really neat video footage and Geoff shot so many banger photos that we might do a small coffee table book a little later in the year. Stay tuned for the new 2018 helmet colors, but if you look closely you might spot a Safe-T Yellow Gringo, a new metallic called Sierra Green and a few others. Below, I've listed each day's route and where we stayed in case it might help someone plan a similar trip. This plan checked off all the items on the to-do list: Redwoods, Yosemite, HWY 395, Feather River, Fowler's Falls, Mt. Shasta, the northernmost Pacific Coast Highway, San Francisco traffic and everything in between. Ride Motorcycles.
